What happens when a corporate interior designer working for a global design and architectural firm turns her expertise to quilt patterns? Extraordinary designs! Natalie Barnes shows how to use color, contrast, and composition to achieve a one-of-a-kind look. Included is a chapter by the masterful machine quilter Angela Walters on using the stitching itself to complement these concepts.
- Twist and turn simple blocks to create impressive, random-looking modern designs
- Learn to trust unusual color combinations and choose fabrics with confidence
- 13 enticing patterns: quilts, table runners, wall hangings, place mats, and quilted storage boxes
About the Author:
Natalie is the owner and designer for beyond the reef, a pattern-design company. As a little girl, Natalie learned to sew, knit, and crochet from her grandmother. Later she began quilting with $.99 fabrics from Woolworth’s. After a successful career in the demanding commercial-interior-design field in Los Angeles, Natalie decided it was time to step out in faith, live her dream, and put her talents to work in another area. She has never looked back. Having always lived on the beach, she draws her inspiration for color and design from the sea, the sky, and the land. These days you’ll find Natalie in the studio in sunny Southern California, or out and about with Buddy-Dog.
This is a fun modern book with amazing insights on color, contrast, and composition. Projects range from totes, studio boxes, placemats, wallhangings, and quilts. All of the inspirational projects come with easy to follow instructions with great visuals. There is also a section for finishing a quilt. This is definitely a great book for beginner quilters, as well as quilters with experience that want to create fun projects with a modern twist.
All of the projects are inspirational and the quilts are beautifully quilted, by Angela Walters.
