Pets On Quilts Show – 2017

It’s time.  I can honestly say this is my favorite event of the year – The Annual Pets on Quilts Show, hosted by Snoodles of Lily Pad Quilting.

Pets on Quilts 2017
I love seeing all the cute pets on beautiful quilts.  This is a super fun event for bloggers and non-bloggers who love animals.  I’ll confess I love all sorts of animals and I love quilting, so this show is meant to be.  Plus, Snoodles does such a great job hosting this event and has lined up amazing sponsors who have donated generous prizes.  But while winning prizes can be great fun, the fun is really all about seeing all the sweet pets and beautiful quilts.  And, you’ll even find pet themed quilts that are inspirational.

I’ll also confess, I don’t have a pet.  All my pets are now in pet heaven.  While I’d love to adopt a pet from a shelter, I’m a few years off from being able to offer a furr-ever loving home. In the meantime, I volunteer to pet watch and walk where ever I can.

I thought I’d share a picture of a sweet dog on a recent quilt I made.  The quilt was a free pattern and video tutorial from the Fat Quarter Shop for a classic Jacob’s Ladder Quilt.

This cute dog is a long hair Corgi.  He was all about food and fortunately I had dog biscuits that his 2 legged mother approved me giving him one.  He wanted to explore everything and became super excited once he found my quilt.  He actually didn’t seem to want to get off of it.  While I would have approved him to stay for an extended visit (even longer than a summer), his 2 legged mother insisted that he had to go with her when she left.

I want to encourage everyone to check out the Pets on Quilts Show which officially begins today.  You can find a Linky Party tool on Lily Pad Quilting.  Participants can share anytime during the show (linky tool is live), so you may want to bookmark and go back.  I love to click thru all the entries to learn more about the sweet pets, as well as the beautiful quilts.  IF you have a pet or a pet themed quilt, don’t overlook the fact that even though this show started today, there is still time to snap some photos and enter.  Just pop by Lily Pad Quilting for more info on this super fun event.  And, I hope you’ll help spread the word too!

Pets on Quilts Show: Final Update before show closes

First, I want to clarify that while the Pets on Quilts Show closes on the 21st (midnight PST), the benefit of virtual quilt shows is that all the entries will be viewable anytime after the show

I want to thank three new sponsors that have generously donated prizes:

The Electric Quilt Company

Angie Padilla (Angie’s Bits ‘n Pieces)

Martingale and Company, Home of That Patchwork Place

I also want to encourage everyone to check out the rules for this show, list of prizes and categories of prizes as this may help you win prizes.  There are many wonderful prizes and many ways to win.  While those that enter a Pet on Quilt in this show have many chances to win prizes, so do viewers, and voters. I’m just fearful some may have ignored some opportunities to win prizes.  For example:

1) Follow SewCalGal and leave a comment to let me know you are a follower, to get entered.

2)  Enter a Pet on Quilt (real pet, pet themed quilt, or even an EQ6/EQ7 pet theme design).  You just need to enter by end of day on 8/21.

3) Vote for your favorite Pet on Quilts, to get entered.

4) View quilts in the show and leave a comment on any of the SewCalGal posts about this show, and you’ll be entered to win a prize.  And, it would be very nice if you could leave a comment on the blog post of those who entered the the show.

5) View ALL of the quilts in the show AND leave a comment on every blog post, for every entry.  Come back and leave a comment on this post to let me know you have viewed ALL of the quilts and what # of quilts you viewed.  This is a tricky rule, as there is a timing factor.  You post a comment too early and more quilts get entered, if someone else comes in and has viewed more quilts, they will be the winner under this rule.  Tip:  Be the last, or one of the last to enter.  But be sure to visit all the entries and leave a comment on each.  If audited and you overlooked something, you are disqualified.

When you do leave a comment, you may want to share insight on what prizes you may want to win.  I can’t guarantee, but I’ll try to match prizes up with the interest of the winner.  An example of such a comment might be “Enjoying the show, Mary (#5,14, 28)”. Or send me an email to let me know what you are interested in.
I’m maintaining a spreadsheet with all the ways one can win a prize and logging info on what prize  you may want!

Sadly, there are several no-reply bloggers and Anonymous bloggers that I have no way to contact, should they win.  Those posting comments via the anonymous option need to leave their contact info, if they wish to win a prize.  Bloggers with no reply settings can check for tips on changing their settings on my page where the tab at the top of my blog is labeled “giveaways & contests“, or leave your email address in your comment if you are not certain.

Again, entries to the show accepted thru 8/21 (midnight PST).  Just be sure to follow the rules.

Shortly after the show closes on the 21st (midnight PST), a post will be made to announce the winners. The winners will have five days to claim their prizes, or another name will be drawn for that prize.

It may seem complicated to review all the rules, categories of prizes, list of prizes, show entries, etc. But, just like visiting any big show there is a lot to see and do. Always easy to overlook a great opportunity and later be sorry, thus I hope you’ll take time to review these tips, if you want to increase your chances for winning prizes in this show.  And, if it becomes too much, don’t worry about it…just enjoy the show.

I hope you are enjoying the Pets on Quilts Show. I know I am.

Pets on Quilts Show – Judy Leftwich

These beautiful quilts were submitted by Judy Leftwich.  The first one was made as a memory quilt, of her dog Irish.  Also shared is a cute photo of Irish, proudly sitting on top of another lovely quilt that Judy made.  Judy, is not a blogger, so she submitted this entry via email, with the following insight:

“Irish was part of our family for many years and the quilt says I Should’a had dogs, meaning dogs are easier to raise than kids.”

Please accept this photo of my miniature quilt with both a cat and a parakeet. I made this 12″ by 10″ wall hanging from a pattern by Aniko Fehrer. She called for the cat to be looking at a butterfly, but I fussycut a parakeet from fabric and appliqued that on instead.

This quilt was made and quilted by me. I did the thread painting on the kitty and the free motion quilting on the background as a relatively new machine quilter, having just recently purchased a sewing machine that could handle such stitching!

Saturday, August 14th SewCalGal will create a special post that will allow viewers to vote for their favorite entries in this show.  Bloggers can continue to enter this show thru August 21st, but as voting for viewers choice begings 8/14, clearly there is an advantage of entering this show earlier vs later.

Pets on Quilts Show – Lotte Klint

This cute cat and quilt, was submitted by Lotte Klint.  Her cat’s name is Findus.  Such an interesting name.  Lotte, is not a blogger, so she  submitted this entry via email,  with the following insight:

I would like to enter one of my cats, Findus, in the Pets on quilts-show. This is the back of a quilt for my mothers 80th birthday, on the front are photos of her (human) family, but apparently Findus likes the back with the cat families better.

I’ve extended the deadline out for non-bloggers to submit entries to me, as I haven’t found it to be as much work as I had thought (consolidating them with the other entries).  Thus, the new deadline for non-bloggers to enter is Friday, 8/13 midnight!

Bloggers will continue to be able to enter thru August 21st, but as a special post will be made this Saturday, to open up voting for Viewers Choice, there is clearly an advantage of getting your entry in sooner than later!

This is a Buggy Barn pattern. I used rick rack for the whiskers and buttons for the eyes. I used this to try out different stitches when I quilted it. Fun!

Pets of Quilts Show: Mary McCrory Valaika

This cute beautiful girl is the four legged “grandchild” of Mary McCrory Valaika.   Mary submitted this entry via Facebook, with the following insight:

Here is Scout the Australian Shepherd, lounging on the Buffalo Bill Commemorative quilt I made for Ms. Scout’s owner, my son. Scout “helped” make the quilt, she would lay her head on my foot on the sewing machine pedal and my machine would ZZZZZZZZzzzzz! This is Scout’s first quilt :^) My son tells me Scout is very possessive of the quilt.

Pets on Quilts Show – Lenor Lynas

This cute beautiful girl is the four legged child of Lenor Lynas.   Lenor submitted this entry via Facebook, with the following insight:

Here’s my entry into the Pets on Quilt Show. This is my Alaskan Klee Kai, Kyli, on a quilt I made and donated to my dog breed club to raffle. I have donated at least one doggie quilt, and sometimes two, evey year since 2002 as a fund raiser for my breed club and have made quite a few over the years. A portion of the funds raised goes toward our breed rescue.

The quilt’s name is “Pup Up” because of the doggie heads that are appliqued on it that appear to be popping up!

Click here for more info on the Pets and Quilts Show, as well as viewing other quilts that have been submitted so far. Entries will be accepted thru August 21st. But those that want a chance at winning the Viewer’s Choice Awards (Dog category, Cat Category or Other Pet Category) need to have their entries submitted by Saturday, September 11th.

1. Quilt may be of any size or design, but must be made by the person submitting the entry.

2. Quilt must have a pet theme: It might be that the fabric or design has a pet motif, or the quilt has a photo of your pet on the quilt.

3. Quilt designs (e.g. EQ6 or EQ7) are acceptable if they have a pet theme.

4. All submissions must be yours (do not submit something that has a copyright issue, or made by another person).

5. One entry per person (one post per blog, but it can contain more than one photo).

6. Bloggers need to submit their entry by posting a photo(s) of their entry on their blog, with insights about their quilt and/or pet. Post must be dated between August 7th and August 21st.   Your post also needs to show that you are entering, what you are sharing, in the Pets on Quilts Show, with a link back to the show page (which contains links to all the entries).

A post will be made on SewCalGal on August 7th that will contain a MckLinky that bloggers will be able to add a link to their post that is viewed as their entry to this show (not a link to their blog). For bloggers, they are welcome to post more than one Pet on Quilt/Pet themed quilt in their post that they enter via the Mcklinky to this show (but only one link to Mcklinky per person/blog).

7. Non-bloggers have two ways to submit their entry:

To clarify, if the volume of entries for non-bloggers is large (more than 10 per day), SewCalGal will randomly select out of the pool of non-blog entries, which will be entered via the method for non-bloggers.
